Launching A New Website Live?

There is no simple answer as there are many factors that affect when a website is complete enough to go live. An existing popular website re-write should be developed on a development server using a subdomain name and password protected landing page and have all pages flagged “no index” to stop Google from trying to access the website.

On a shared hosting server environment, it may be necessary for the website to be live in order to test responsiveness. Emulators are not 100% accurate and using real devices are the only way to properly adjust for responsiveness across the many popular device screens.

Responsive Live Device Testing

It is quite possible to have a planned release date for a new website on a shared hosting server. That is something that needs to be arranged prior to receiving a quote as it greatly increases development time on a shared server environment. It can increase the cost of development between $500 to $1000 dollars as the time to authenticate and then clear each device slows down testing.

New Websites

Unless advertised, new websites have no traffic for several weeks and then slowly gain momentum. That is probably not what new website owners want to hear but it is the truth. A website alone will not make a product or a service popular. A website URL needs to be advertised to become popular. Another good way to increase a websites popularity is by using a well written blog. This allows for testing of responsive devices before the website has traffic or begins being popular without needing to enter an admin password on each device.
